Historical books, records, documents and collection objects preserve the cultural memory of past centuries. At the same time, mould, dust deposits and other biological contaminants can accumulate on archival and collection materials over decades.
When opening, inspecting, cleaning or restoring these materials, particles and spores can be released. They may be inhaled, spread throughout the room and affect both the health of staff and adjacent work areas and collections. Effective protection therefore begins directly at the workplace. Released particles must be captured immediately at their source. This helps protect staff and effectively limit contamination.
The Class I biological safety cabinet NuAire A813 was specifically developed for these requirements. It provides reliable personnel and environmental protection and enables the safe handling of contaminated archival and collection materials.
TRBA 240 explicitly identifies Class I microbiological safety cabinets as a suitable technical protective measure for activities involving microbiologically contaminated archival materials. Where the risk assessment identifies corresponding hazards, the use of such a protective solution may be required.
