Bacterial culture media are mixtures of nutrients, minerals and other elements that are ideal for the growth of microorganisms. Depending on the composition of the culture, it promotes or inhibits the growth of a particular microorganism or group of microorganisms. There are two main types: solid and liquid media. Solid culture media contain the binding agent agar, whereas liquid culture media, also known as broths, do not. The bacterial cultures are available in dehydrated or ready-to-use form. The dehydrated format is a mixture of all elements in a powder that needs to be rehydrated and sterilized, whereas the medium in the ready-to-use format is already hydrated.
